Ever thought about making wine? Why not make some wine now? Making wine can be great fun and can save you a lot of money too. You don't need much wine making equipment to get going and it really won't cost you a fortune either. There are so many pluses to making your own wine we think you should start now. Well to start you need a bucket to make your wine in. This is particularly useful if you are using grapes or fruit and is good for the mixing process. You also need a fermenter for doing the actual fermentation although you can also use the bucket if you are on a budget. Depending on how much you are doing the equipment for making wine will be either 5 litres or 25 litres in capacity.

The other items you will want are an airlock, bung and siphon. You will also need steriliser to clean all the equipment used in making wine.

After making the wine you will need bottles or another container which should be glass which you can store the finished product and let it mature. The final piece for making your wine will be the bottling equipment which will allow you to insert the corks into the bottles.

Where can you find wine making equipment?

There are many shops through out the UK selling specialist wine and beer equipment. Some will sell wine and beer kits as well as equipment for making wine. Some of the larger supermarkets will also supply equipment, but unfortunately most only do the kits for making your own wine.

These wine making kits will produce any type of wine. You can do standard red, white or rose from the kits in any variety of time (7 days to 8 weeks). If you want to be more adventurous then these specific kits which will allow you also to do wine like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

How much will the equipment cost for you to get you going making wine?

The basic wine equipment will cost anything from £5 for a small one gallon kit to £20 plus for a large wine kit. The advantage of making wine in the larger quantities is you end up with more finished wine but more importantly your production costs for producing the wine will work out less per bottle. So the more you invest on the large wine kits the less this will cost you per bottle. As they say everyone's a winner.
