Making home brew

When money starts to get tight we see a real upsurge in people making home brew. Its amazing how in times of recession this cycle seems to repeat itself time and again. It’s such a shame that it takes something like this to trigger making homebrew as the products have never been so good. Whether you are making wine, beer or liqueurs there are excellent ranges of product for you to choose from.

We have a very comprehensive range of starter kits available on the web site which contain all you need for making homebrew beer, wine, cider or spirits. The liqueurs and spirits are something that is very new in the UK having previously only been available in Australia and New Zealand where this idea started. If you are doing it in the UK you should apply for a licence to produce and distil alcohol.

This however takes making homebrew to a new level. We have never seen anything like this before although we suspect that people have been doing it on the qt. The starter packs will contain the essential equipment you will use in the making process. This will always therefore start with a fermenting container or large food grade approved plastic bucket. We will do the fermentation of whatever and when we have used various items to check its done we will then stabilise the liquid and fine it. Once the finings have cleared the fermentation we can then bottle it or place it in suitable storage containers. Some products will mature better than others and as a general rule the more you spend on making homebrew the more it will mature. In other words if you want to keep it for some time before drinking it then you need to invest in the best. Making homebrew can be great fun and can be rewarding as it can really save you money. Wine from around 75 pence a bottle beer and cider from 25 pence a bottle and spirits (were legal) from around £1.60 per bottle. It really isn’t at all bad!
