Making wine at home is a lot easier than you think, and the kits have come along way in the past decade. With a good quality wine kit, most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between a kit and the supermarket purchased commercial equivalent!
Wine making basics
Modern wine kits are generally available in two sizes; 1 gallon (4.5 litre) kits (which produces 6 standard 75cl bottles), or more commonly 5 gallon (23 litre) kits (which produce 30 bottles).
Other than grape colour and variety, the only other issue to consider when looking for a wine kit is how long it takes to ferment. Most kits take 3-4 weeks to ferment. And generally, the longer it takes to ferment a kit, the better the quality. However thanks to advances in technology, there are a number of 7 day wine kits on the market, such as our own Wineworks Premium. It's and ideal kit for the beginner thanks to it's low cost and rapid turn around.
