Homebrew Beer

The credit crunch is here and I want to start to make homebrew beer. I think this could be fun and I will save some money. I know things are tough out there and I am not prepared to cut back on how much I drink so I need to save money. I figure that I will by making some homebrew beer. Well if I could have a pound for every time I have heard that over the last three years leading up to the end of 2008 I would be a very rich man. There is no doubt that when times get hard people really do look at their budgets and look for ways to save some money. Drink is just one of those areas. It was fine when the economy was booming and there was plenty of money around. People were getting good bonuses and lots of overtime so they didn’t have the time or the need to make their own. Now things are getting tougher then people don’t have the spare cash and there are not picking up the bonuses and overtime. To make some homebrew beer makes a lot of sense. We can offer a beer kit from around 20 pence a pint up to 50 pence a pint for something really special. This represents a tremendous saving on pub beer which is anything up to £3.00 per pint. You will obviously need to buy the equipment first but you don’t need a lot to do homebrew beer.

A 25 litre food grade bucket and lid to start the fermentation is the first port of call. We then need a siphon, to transfer this after the fermentation is complete, into either a pressure barrel or some bottles depending on whether you want slightly sparkling beer or really cold sparkling beer. You will need a beer kit to go in the bucket and depending on which kit you get you might need a bag of sugar. As a general rule the heavier the beer kit the better it will be as it has more malt in it and less sugar. This will also tend to mean that it is also more expensive but don’t all good things cost more and this is your beer we are talking about!!!! The homebrew beer will take about a week to ferment and two to three weeks to clear in your bottles or barrel.
